RVG
Labelled one of the best bands in Australia and yet still hugely underrated, the Romy Vager Group (RVG) have been an integral part of the music scene Down Under since their 2017 debut album, “A Quality Of Mercy”. Frontwoman and founder Romy originally brought the quartet together as a backing band for her solo material but then recognised the potential that existed in RVG as a group. And that potential still exists today. Inspired by the Patti Smith Group and not at all interested in current trends, RVG play a peculiar mix of indie rock, post-punk, and jangle pop. The laid-back songwriting dispenses with any frills but still comes across as fully formulated and self-confident. Last year saw the release of “Brain Worms”, their third studio album to date, which combines the virtues of the two previous albums and adds at least one more scoop of instrumental diversity, vocal presence, and sincere emotionality. It’s therefore no wonder that the Guardian, Australian magazine Junkee, and NME have praised the group. And it won’t be long now before the band celebrate their breakthrough in our country, too. Plus, you can see them here first.
