Sources of inspiration can take many forms, but two of them are always particularly powerful: human relationships, and the relationship between humans and nature. Reinel Bakole’s music is also about the most elemental forces in the world, as can be heard when she lets her incomparable voice shine between visceral beats and multi-layered poetry. Her debut, “Healing Exhaustion”, was released at the beginning of the year and takes the listener into a cosmos of sound with unusual ingredients: neo-soul, hints of jazz and R’n’B, and complex beat patterns, such as those found in glitch-hop. In addition to Freudian theories and the myths of their Congolese heritage, the group’s music is also characterised by views on empowerment and a world out of joint. Throughout her journey, Reinel draws from the nature and colors surrounding her, finding inspiration and fulfillment in these elements. The aim of these introspections is clear: healing and fulfilment. And who doesn’t need some of that?
