This Town
With his broad accent and explosive sound, Steven Knight, producer of Peaky Blinders, proves that not only can he recreate 1930s Birmingham in style, he also succeeds in capturing the musical flair of the city in the wild 80s in an exciting format. Welcome to "This Town"! Politically charged and focusing on a rebellious music scene, the series wraps the themes of social class and racism in pop-cultural garb. Guns and sex, riots and inequality – Steve Knights manages to bring the recipe for success of Peaky Blinders into another era.
"This Town" recounts the story of a family and four young people unable - or unwilling - to resist the magnetic pull of ska, two-tone and punk in Birmingham. The music in the series, which was released in 2024, comes courtesy of greats such as Kae Tempest. If you want a short – but by no means quiet – break from the mad throng on the Reeperbahn, sink back into your armchair – and escape to This Town.
The screening will be followed by a talk with the creators of the series.
