A restlessness has spread through Nicki Papa. Over the past three years, he has rarely had solid ground under his feet. On the one hand, ‘Kalte Liebe’, Nicki Papa's first and so far only solo project, was released almost 40 months ago. A period of time that certainly can't be squeezed into a few minutes of pop music. On the other hand, the newcomer has been constantly on fire in recent years, even without a second album. As part of his label and band project NEUNUNDNEUNZIG, he and creative partner Ilja Danzinger have nurtured their growing status as one of the most exciting ‘If you know, you know’ promises in German-language music under various pseudonyms. Although they have established a game of hide-and-seek with the public in the process, last year alone this brought with it over 50 performances in nine European countries, an official remix for Lana Del Rey's hit single ‘Say Yes To Heaven’ and, of course, a form of overwhelming success. This is exactly where Nicki Papa now starts. His second album is working its way out of a constant frenzy and through a series of low points. Nevertheless, the new record fits naturally into the small cosmos that NEUNUNDNEUNZIG have created for themselves as a duo. Almost all the songs were written together, and Ilja Danzinger produced the majority of them. For the first time, their range of influences from dark wave, trance, techno and cloud rap opens up more aggressively towards synth-pop. We can be curious.
