It's unfortunate but true: like such a lot of things these days, awareness of mental health has triggered a kind of wrong-headed romanticisation. For some it's cool or even edgy, for others it's an unsolvable problem that can destroy lives. Eaves Wilder also faced her own struggles and now openly addresses her past, but wants to do her bit to deromanticise issues such as anorexia, depression and anxiety disorders. With her debut EP "Hookey", released last year, and singles like "Are You Diagnosed?", she tackles her odyssey through the British healthcare system, while also lampooning the way mental problems are portrayed and treated. "I don't want to sugarcoat anything, because there's nothing great about an eating disorder," she said in a recent interview. She also conveys this in her sound, which resembles melodic DIY punk with a riot grrl attitude and doesn't give a damn about obsolete ideas of femininity. "Being happy is cool" - and she finds this happiness in her identity as an artist every day anew.
