Busiswa Gqulu
Born in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, Busiswa Gqulu is a South African artist known for her unique blend of poetry and dance music. She gained fame in 2012 with the global hit "My Name Is," a collaboration with DJ Zinhle. Busiswa's style, mixing Xhosa language with rhythmic beats and English lyrics, has earned her international acclaim and numerous awards.Busiswa's artistic journey began in primary school, driven by a passion for reading and writing that evolved into poetry. She spent a decade perfecting her craft at poetry sessions and festivals. In 2010, she began merging spoken word with dance music, leading to collaborations with house producers Sir Bubzin and DJ Clap. This led her to South African producer Oskido and the opportunity to record with Kalawa Jazmee.Her distinctive sound and powerful voice quickly established her as a rising star. By 2012, Busiswa was touring Africa, performing in Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Namibia, and more. Collaborations with prominent artists like Uhuru, Heavy K, and DJ Tira, as well as American musicians, solidified her status in the music industry.Busiswa's career soared with her collaboration with Beyoncé on The Lion King: The Gift album, showcasing her talent to a global audience. She has released three albums and been featured on both the soundtrack and score of the films Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
