Anastasia Coope
Anastasia Coope has been making waves in various music circles for a few years now with her striking baritone. The multi-talented artist from New York creates visual worlds in songs that seem to have completely fallen out of time. Inspired by names as diverse as Brigitte Fontaine, Nico, and old Scandinavian chorales, Coope’s sound has a strangely sacred flavour while also being highly modern. Since she had already mastered this balancing act with flying colours on her unfortunately far-too-short debut EP, “Seemeely” (2021), the expectations for her first album were enormous. But the wait was worth it: “Darning Women” is nothing less than a trip through all the realms that the terrain between psychedelic folk, art pop, and baroque aesthetics has to offer. Her music is a testimony to a great desire to experiment, to support even greater creativity, and to showcase a voice that stands outside the norm without any comparison.
