Nein Danke
Small break, long break, perimenopause, menopause: this is how Nein Danke have been introducing themselves to their audience since their debut EP "Acid Punk" (2022), thus defining straight off the thematic and musical context of their song material. The duo from Neuwied play feminist electro-punk that uses punchily programmed drums and synths to suitably underpin the ambiguous, semi-nihilistic lyrics. Extended middle fingers pop up everywhere like toadstools; contradictions become truths. The two latter-day punks ride the curly-haired hobby-horses of the latest German New Wave into the sunset of the patriarchy - anonymous, pissed off, fearless. It was bands like this that spawned the founding of Audiolith, wrote Linus Volkmann previously. With "Ich weiß nicht, wo ich bin" (2024), Nein Danke prove this diagnosis right while at the same time not giving a damn about all the expectations of the smart-aleck tabloids and the exploitation mechanisms of a bankrupt culture industry. The label doesn't matter, but the will does. Are we ready for it? You bet we are!
