manna
Maria Vainumäe shifts the shape and colour, style and signature of her enigmatic pop design like a chameleon. Starting out with soundcloud rap and a tongue-in-cheek EP titled ‘ALBUM’ (2019), she soon emphasised that she wasn't going to be constrained by conventions under her Manna alias. The debut album ‘Manna’ (2020) then quickly saw arts portals and radio stations in Estonia playing her tracks up and down. Not least because the experimental R'n'B-pop mix of ‘Evil Thoughts’ or ‘Grieve’ was a hit with Gen Z. With the dualistic album ‘i can do anything IF I WANT TO’ (2021) a short time later, she once again showed her lack of regard for expectations and hype - much to the delight of the international press. Unpredictable and adventurous, but still with an effervescent earworm character, the songs on her new album ‘76tape’ (2024) also reveal all the diverse stylistic sides of an artist who has no need to hide any of them, whether bass-heavy electronica oder industrial sounds. Live, it's a spectacle that puts even big names from the States in the shade.
