Florence Besch
Although her debut album, “Hi Now Hello”, was only released last year, Florence Besch already has the standing of an established singer–songwriter with her own signature sound. By combining dreamy vocals and electrified guitars, the Düsseldorf native creates scenes from a coming-of-age soundtrack whose main roles lie with her audience. The rebellion of youth, a plea for self-love and self-empowerment, and also the pathological ossification of social constraints are themes that Besch gives space to in songs such as “Feeling Sick” and “Donut Of Darkness”. Bristling punk arrangements collide with indulgent pop in a way that has never been heard before, at least not in this country. Besch therefore aptly calls this sound “dream grunge”, which conjures up bittersweet longing as well as the unsettling feeling of finally having to get out of your comfort zone in order to move forward. If you can manage it, you are sure to achieve inner growth. But even if you can’t, you’re sure to be moved, anyway.
