Even before they founded Wings of Desire, Chloe Little and James Taylor had already turned heads with the band Inheaven and their self-titled debut album. Inspired by the early legends of grunge as well as by indie heroes such as the Pixies, the London couple had already gained experience in how to convince a hungry indie crowd of their own song material: dropping a bunch of first-class singles and steadily building up the excitement until the release of their first full-fledged album. It worked once before, and it’s not going badly now, either. After all, last year, the two presented another first-class debut of kitsch-free indie rock with distinctive shoegaze influences in “Life Is Infinite” (2023) and are now upping the ante. Their new EP, “Shut Up & Listen” (2024), not only meets all the standards of an appetizer for the upcoming album, but also serves up three powerful songs with extraordinary live qualities of hymn-like melodies, intoxicating vocals, and powerful drums. Their gig in Hamburg should therefore easily more than satisfy all the needs of demanding indie fans.
