Torus from Buckinghamshire, England, are preparing to revive the music of the outcasts and the stigmatised and are fulfilling this mission so brilliantly that you’ll be forced to do a double take. Now a trio, the band have found a songwriting style that quotes Soundgarden and the Queens of the Stone Age and are dressing up new ideas in contemporary production designs. Gigantic melodic arches, sing-along hooks that evoke memories, and sun-tanned stoner riffs adorn their first EP – “Sail” (2022) – from start to finish like the tendrils of a Persian carpet. For two years, the world was hungry for more. Now, the group’s long-awaited debut album, “Torus” (2024), is coming and will show even the last doubters that grunge is alive and well.
