Having started his musical career at the age of five, Cian Godfrey is an artist for whom music means everything. As Somebody’s Child, the youngster from Dublin brings a new form of expression to the usual indie pop formula and amazes listeners with catchy songs that are hard to get enough of. That’s probably also due to the thematic depth of his material. His songs deal with feelings of isolation and frustration, with the turmoil of a time that threatens to suffocate everyone in its contradictions. Colourful synthesiser tracks, precisely programmed beats, a voice that lies somewhere between departure and demolition, the confident indie attitude of the artist as a man of his time: On the EPs “Staying Sane” and “Hope, Amongst Other Things” (2021), Godfrey combines what doubtless belongs together. It therefore comes as no surprise that he became one of the most promising young songwriters in his native Ireland with his 2023 debut album, “Somebody’s Child”.
