Mina Richman
Questions about growing up are relevant across generations and always demand different answers. Mina Richman realised this early on, which is why her songs deal not only with the major themes of love and loneliness, identity and society, but also with the search for meaning in a world that is making less and less sense. After her debut EP – “Jaywalker” (2022) – inspired listeners with a musical blend of soul and blues, hip-hop and the subversive energy of great singer–songwriters such as Patti Smith, she was rightly courted by the local arts pages. The single “Baba Said” (2022) became the anthem of the Iranian “Woman-Life-Freedom” revolution overnight and made the queer-feminist artist globally famous. Her debut album, “Grown Up”, will be released on the Ladies & Ladys label in March this year and promises to present an established songwriter with a wide range of skills. On the one hand, she is able to clothe thematic relevance in sophisticated folk-pop arrangements of great catchiness, while on the other hand, she is also absolutely capable of bringing these arrangements to the stage with great verve. In September, she will be performing here in Hamburg for the first time.
