When Sarah Martin made her way from Boston to Berlin in 2017, she didn’t realise how different the music scene in Germany would be. More egalitarian and diverse, but also more appreciative, the cultural metropolis threw open its arms to the young musician. She soon met her two comrades-in-arms, Max and Freddy, who – like her – view music as an impulse, as a spiritual and physical necessity to create. This deeply sincere impetus is also reflected in her debut album, “Gut Punch”, which was released last year by the Mansions & Millions tastemakers and contains a delicate blend of nostalgic rock, indie folk, and dream pop. Inspirations range from Fleetwood Mac to Big Thief, from Cate Le Bon to Mac DeMarco, and yet songs such as “All My Thoughts” and the wonderfully dreamy “Pause” develop their very own charm. Undoubtedly weightless.
