Maria Chiara Argirò
A versatile musician who is ready for anything, Maria Chiara Argirò has built up a large artistic repertoire over the last few years. She studied music history and ethnomusicology in Rome and went on to study jazz in London before touring with the art-rock combo These New Puritans and recording three albums. In addition to piano and keyboard, she also plays djembe and dundun and feels just as comfortable in nu jazz as she does at the boundary between art pop and chillwave, downtempo and synthetically amplified psychedelic rock – all without ever losing focus on her very own artistic vision. The fact that her four albums to date have explored this vision down to the smallest detail has hardly escaped anyone’s notice, especially in the UK. The virtuosic and highly eclectic signature sound of the multi-instrumentalist is a source of justified fascination for everyone from Jamie Leeming to Four Tet to Jono McCleery. Even Gilles Peterson calls her music “absolutely crazy good”. We’ll leave it at that. And you can hear it for yourself at her gig with us.
