Building bridges between cultures has been an important aspect of Julianna Townsend’s creativity since the start of her promising career. Even as a child, she sang in a choir and then played in various bands, gaining musical experience with different styles. In 2018, she came second in Germany’s Next Top Model and learnt about show business. These are valuable experiences that opened up a multi-perspective career path for her. As a singer, she manifests an idiosyncratic mix of soul, hip-hop, and R’n’B accompanied by her charismatic stage presence. Inspired by Lauryn Hill and Jorja Smith, Julianna combines goosebump-inducing melodies with emotionally accessible lyrics and a range of contemporary topics from female empowerment and mental health to questions of self-discovery – and the answers to them. In September, she will be presenting not only emotional acoustic versions of well-known songs such as “Smoke & Mirrors” (2020) and “Hold On Me” (2020), but also new material such as “Hypnotised” and “No Stress” (2024).
