JAS confronts the unbearable lightness of being with big-screen pop anthems that remind us to keep going. Desperately needed in the times we live in. The young singer-songwriter's highly melodic sound combines youthful melancholy and introspection with goosebump beats that won't let go. The fact that he realises the power of his tracks is also evident in the song titles, which evoke memories of the early great deeds of New German Wave. And they certainly do: Singles such as "Winterherz" or "Straßengraben" are in one sense ultra-modern, but they also hark back to the bygone days of German-language pop music, all the way back to the glorious eighties. Just like then, the JAS project originated as a light-hearted distraction, now taking on an ambitious life of its own. Good for us, because in September one of the most promising newcomers in the country will be making his festival debut in St. Pauli.
