Ikkimel
Nose slightly upturned, eyebrow arched after a bit of microblading and still her career is on the rise: Ikkimel has given laddishness the middle finger and isn’t afraid to dole out some rough neighbourhood slang or toy with role clichés. For two years now, the Berliner has been producing off-the-wall hyperpop tracks that tackle break-beats between trance and house samples and sound like the reincarnation of Blümchen into K-Hole. Berlin clubs were quick to hail the rapper as a subversive new discovery, but the rest of the country hardly had her on their radar. With singles such as "Keta und Krawall" or "Fussballmänner", however, this has changed in recent months. Now she's being fêted as West Berlin's "best mount in the stable", looking like a hedonistic demon beyond conventional conventions and making the world her own. It is about time that this form of sex-positive club music was recognised as the manifesto of a generation that finally wants to shake off the stuffiness of the past. The future is here already – Ikkimel’s seen it already.
