The Family Battenberg
Named after the ancestors of today’s House of Windsor, The Family Battenberg have very little to do with any noble families – and they don’t sound like it, either. Rather, their snotty garage rock is channelled directly from the sweaty rehearsal rooms of the 70s and uses dusty riffs, motoric rhythms, and percussive drums as anchor points for a powerful sound. In terms of instrumentation and groove, bands as diverse as Iggy & The Stooges, NEU!, and the Queens of the Stone Age shine through again and again, but the quartet from Cardiff in South Wales brew up their very own cocktail of styles. And they are impressive to hear on previous singles such as “Fuzzy Features” (2022) and “Runny Hunny” (2023), with which the Battenbergs were able to build a reputation for insanely sweaty and intense live performances. There is no doubt that they will do justice to this reputation at their gig in Hamburg in September.
