As a member of Warpaint, she turned the North American dream pop sector upside down during the 2010s and created glorious albums such as “The Fool” (2010) and “Heads Up” (2016), which are now considered classics of neo-psychedelia. All that was followed by solo projects, moves to new locations, a pandemic, and the birth of her daughter. Today, Kokal is still one of the greats of the Californian creative scene but has become calmer and more level-headed, which is also indirectly reflected in her music. Reconciling family and career, her reputation as the antithesis of the stereotypical indie-girl, and her experiences in the music business has allowed her to mature as an artist and a person. And all that is now also reflected in her music, with which the established songwriter and guitarist is now opening another chapter in her consistently well-thought-out career – a career that has been characterised by high-quality releases. One of the quieter but all-the-more capable musicians of our time, her gig in Hamburg will undoubtedly be a highlight – regardless as to whether you’ve ever even heard of Warpaint.
