CUT_
Delightfully provocative and saturated with grandiose synthesiser pads, Belle Doron and Sebastiaan Dutilh have been stirring up Amsterdam’s underground for over ten years. The pair started out with singles such as “Undertow” (2017) and “Out Of Touch” (2018), which successfully defined the creative framework for their joint project, CUT_: It’s a reinterpretation of British bass and trip-hop sounds with a contemporary twist that reveals sources of inspiration such as Massive Attack, Burial, and Stromae in equal measure. Their first studio album, “A Small Group Of Individuals” (2019), oscillated accordingly between pop, electro, and other types of synth-driven music, with which the duo experiment carefree. The fact that their follow-up – “Egolove” (2022), which was released via PIAS – also incorporated alternative R’n’B elements only goes to show how versatile CUT_ really are both in the studio and on stage.
