Bess Atwell
Almost from the moment Bess Hidlick-Smith quit her music studies, she gained both recognition and acclaim as a music artist in her own right. This might seem paradoxical at first glance, but of course it isn't. Ultimately, her impressive showcases at The Great Escape Festival drew the attention of the British press, identifying the young singer-songwriter as a new folk poet. Her debut album "Hold Your Mind" followed in 2016 and was hailed by fans and the press alike, as was the follow-up "Already, Always" from 2021. This album already revealed a rapid development in terms of songwriting, instrumentation and arrangements. What started out as a solo project soon turned into a fully-formed band, wowing the British music landscape from BBC Radio One Music to Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley's radio show to the culture section of the Guardian. Now the third album "Light Sleeper" follows right on time for the summer of 2024 and signals the next phase of a career that so far has been a non-stop highlights reel.
