Antony Szmierek
Shocked by his own success, Antony Szmierek hasn’t been able to cross a street without being approached since the release of his breakthrough track, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Fallacy”. Two years ago, the poet and spoken word artist simply started putting together a few beats alongside his work as a teacher, recording reflections on the supposedly mundane. It may not sound like anything special on paper, but once you hear the results, it becomes clear why the music has hit the nerve of a generation that seems more torn than ever between yesterday and tomorrow – and yet there is this deep connection behind it all. “I’m the hitchhiker – you’re the galaxy”. Nostalgic beats and smooth indie riffs meet introspective lyrics that provide comfort and show a way out of spiralling thoughts through intricate wordplay. In the backstreets of indie and rap, poetry slams and illegal house raves, Szmierek is currently assembling the sound of the present, and hardly anyone has realised it. Until now.
