Matthias Glasner
Matthias Glasner was born in 1965 in Hamburg. In the 90s, he directed the “hipster-trilogy”: three feature films – “DIE MEDIOCREN”, “SEXY SADIE” and “FANDANGO” – all of which premiered at the Berlinale. Subsequently, he directed the films “DER FREIE WILLE” (which won the Silver Bear for lead actor Jürgen Vogel at the Berlinale 2006, among other awards), “THIS IS LOVE” (festival competition at San Sebastian), and “GNADE” (Berlinale competition).
For television, in addition to several TV-movies, he directed the series “KDD - Kriminaldauerdienst” (which won, among others, the Grimme Award and the German Television Award) and both wrote and directed the series “BLOCHIN - Die Lebenden und die Toten” as well as the two-part series “LANDGERICHT”, which also received a Grimme Award and was based on the novel of the same name and winner of the German Book Awards by author Ulrike Krechel. For SKY, he directed the second season of the international series “DAS BOOT”.
His latest feature film “STERBEN” won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlinale 2024 and four LOLAS at the GERMAN FILM AWARDS 2024, including Best Score and the Golden Lola for Best Picture.
