Joan as Police Woman

US

Born Joan Wasser, the American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began her career studying classical violin at Boston University. After graduating, Wasser began performing regularly with several indie rock bands and touring the world in the 90s with a variety of alt-rock stars from the grunge era (including Weezer, Sonix Youth, Helium, Beck). After a personal stroke of fate, the death of her soulmate Jeff Buckley, Joan began to sing. And was reborn as Joan Police Woman in 2002.Along the way, she became a one-woman wrecking crew, picking up the piano, guitar and bass and writing her own string arrangements as she composed and wrote her own songs to plumb the secret chambers of the soul. Her music is often characterized by personal experiences and emotions and reflects a deep artistic sensibility. She rummages through the Tracks record box live with our Tracks editorial team at the Reeperbahn Festival.
