Explosive Kick-Off: Reeperbahn Festival Collide Live in Concert
For the new season of Reeperbahn Festival Collide – our pioneering music format with a clear and aesthetic attitude – we are going live. For the first time, two artist duos from music and the visual arts will unite in front of an audience on 29 July 2024. And what a pair of duos they are!
Tom Walker will team up with Maximiliane Wadler & Elastique.
We are bringing together an exciting team in the bunker: singer–songwriter Tom Walker and motion designer and scenographer Maximiliane Wadler together with Elastique.
Emotional sincerity, soulful vocals, dynamic production, and driving rhythms are the core elements of Tom Walker’s music, which are clearly expressed in his 2017 single “Leave A Light On”. With his second album, “I Am”, the musician from Manchester shows us a snapshot of his life, which is characterised by creative challenges, personal fears, and private losses. We can also hear his personal development: He is not (or no longer) here to sweet-talk his listeners, but to give space to these new feelings with dynamic production and driving rhythms.
Maximiliane Wadler is translating this spirit onto the giant screen: The artist is able to realise media productions, always in an interplay between scenography and motion design. She creates abstract spaces that develop into ever-new narratives using digital image processing. Among other things, she uses AI-generated images as the basis for her visual worlds. Elastique Creative Studio will once again be there to bring its artistic vision to the canvas. The result will be a live highlight of digital art and music that can only be seen and heard here.
The Leoniden together with Tamara Knapp & Elastique.
On the same evening, the Leoniden will also be fusing their sound with the visual vision of Tamara Knapp and Elastique. With their mixture of indie pop, post-punk, and synth grunge, the five musicians from Kiel known as the Leoniden show how well melancholic lyrics and unstoppable energy go together and prove that sad music can be anything but monotonous. With this group, world-weariness can be shouted out, and negative thoughts shake loose in dance. And although sweat drips from everyone’s brows, fans always leave a Leoniden concert with new energy rather than without it!
In this extraordinary collaboration, Tamara Knapp and the creative minds around creative director Timo Kreitz from Elastique will visually accompany precisely this sound. The visual artist and graphic designer skilfully combines tools, constructs graphic systems, and creates experimental visual works. In so doing, she endeavours to combine synthetic structures with natural aesthetics – and to bring them to the LED screen for Collide.
With their infallible sense of aesthetics and zeitgeist, Elastique will translate the sound of the Leoniden to the stage. In symbiosis and at eye level. What usually takes place in front of the cameras will happen for the first time this Monday in front of a roaring crowd: The visual artists will mix their installation live to the sounds of the band. Both art forms will merge to create the first concert highlight in this format – and in the new venue. Explosive energy and melancholy on the mic, visual power and aesthetic vision on the screen: Welcome to our second duo!
