Pleasing
No boundary and no tradition last forever; rather, they are always evolving. In this spirit, Pleasing also set out to dissolve the conventional structures of contemporary rock music. The one-man project consisting of Patrick Miranda has already turned heads in tranquil Luxembourg in recent years with the EPs “Polara” (2018) and “1 & 2” (2019) but has also amazed connoisseurs of eclectic rock music. With his debut album, “In The Mood For Super Dark Times” (2021), which was released at the height of the pandemic, the musician put forth a work that could hardly have been more fitting in terms of both title and sound. Themes such as depression and mental health, the status quo in the West, and the existentialist philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard provide the thematic framework within which Pleasing set off a firework display of maths and post-rock, metal and jazz influences. In addition, he skilfully alternates between raw vocals and spoken-word passages reminiscent of slam poetry. His EP “For Us To Escape” was released at the end of last year and once again marked a new path for the project. And that path leads straight to us in Hamburg in September.
