With her debut EP "Rauschgift" last year, Modular took her cue from the electro and EBM sound of the late 80s - full-bodied bass, mechanical bleeps and blurbs, urgent vocals that initially echo through murky spaces before condensing right up close to your ear. The ambience is suffused with green light, the style sensual and yet somehow industrial. So it's no surprise that she was quickly recruited for support shows by Mia Morgan, Salò and Mayberg. She's kicking off this year with her "Trümmer dieser Stadt" tour and has again given her signature sound a makeover: "Zeit steht" is more post-punk than goth club, with a romantic but deeply yearning sound, as the never-ending hope for finding unrequited love is the theme here. Completely kitsch-free, but still full of whirling emotions, Modular demonstrates how nostalgia and modernity can be moulded into a deeply touching sound.
