It didn’t take much more than four absolute bangers for Alice Guala and Blake Cornwall to go from zero to one hundred and become one of the most sought-after metal bands in the UK. The duo from Brighton are deliberately difficult to categorise stylistically, with roots in alternative metal, melodic death metal, metalcore, and hyperpop. Songs of the calibre of “Black Turbine” (2023) and “Eternal December” show how seamlessly all of this can mesh together with an energy that gives you non-stop goosebumps. Although Lake Malice are only just starting to really ramp things up on this year’s debut EP, “Post-Genesis”, they already have the sound of a duo with many years of experience.
