As modest as her attitude towards both herself as an artist and her music may be, Amadea Ackermann has nevertheless blossomed into a highly successful boundary-crosser in the German-speaking pop scene – and all while her debut album, “So bin ich” (2023), is not even a year old. But who’s surprised? After studying jazz and piano, the talented songwriter ventured to Berlin, threw herself into the capital’s music scene on the courageous advice of her professor, and let the city’s spirit take hold. Initially melancholic, her sound quickly made great leaps. As Dilla, she now creates eclectic pop that encompasses everything that falls under the umbrella of the genre. Unpretentious indie charm as in “Mensch”, shimmering synth cascades and nostalgic Eurodance à la “Photosynthese”, as well as the punk and poetry of “Girls” demonstrate that what we have here is a thoroughbred artist who feels at home in a multitude of genres and who knows how to create her signature sound in a correspondingly idiosyncratic way. Where is the hype? Is it already here? Dilla, at any rate, is here to stay.
