Is there a better time for a band like Zahn (German for “Tooth”) than right now? The world's being run ragged by money, complete cultures are filing for insolvency, everything is bankrupt, the tank is empty - now it's an eye for an eye and all that. But perhaps teeth are also the natural consequence of this era. In the finest Klaus Dinger style, the trio from Berlin hurtle towards a post-apocalyptic future, whose scenes of ruins tower before the mind's eye like cliffs in the Alps. Boom, boom, boom in the engine room of techno-feudalism, the sunset on the mossy cooling tower. It's no mean feat to captivate the press and fans alike with these images and a sound that sits somewhere between NEU!, Jesus Lizard and Tortoise. But Zahn do more than just that, they also scalp the status quo as they sail by without uttering a single word. Sounds say more than a thousand words. With their self-titled debut three years back, an extraordinary team emerged that is finally spitting out endlessly regurgitated indie fare and serving up fresh raw cuts with flavour. But even the most die-hard fans couldn't have expected that with "Adria" (2023), the band wouldn't just live up to the praise they got in advance, but overshoot the mark by a country mile. Well, it happened. So: take a bite and come to the gig in Hamburg - face masks are recommended.
