Sylvie Kreusch
Claims such as “the new star in the Belgian night sky” are not really necessary for Sylvie Kreusch. Nevertheless, such flowery words describe quite well what the singer from Antwerp has been able to achieve since the beginning of the decade with just one album and a handful of singles. Of course, she had previously played on the two albums released by Warhaus, which was the band of her then-boyfriend, Maarten Devoldere. But it was the breakup with him and the continuation under her own chosen auspices that allowed the artist to truly bloom in Kreusch. Her debut, “Montbray” (2021), is both a liberation from the past and an attempt to reform Belgian pop music. The always-eccentrically dancing artist pulls out all the stops and can sound as dreamy and artsy as she can sophisticated and ambient-esque. “I try to find a certain power, a skill, and a story by following my gut feeling,” she once said in an interview. And she’s exactly right. That’s why she’s coming back to Hamburg in September and will be bringing new song material with her.
