PAULINKO
Perhaps this is it - the desperately needed incarnation of feminine self-empowerment in the shape of a power duo that devours every word with relish. Anna Pauline Kohn (vocals) and Lisa-Marie Bruynen (percussion) create powerfully pulsating synthpop with the matching drive to put another nail in the coffin of the patriarchy. They don't just paste the DIY label on their foreheads, they get their hands dirty. The result: fresh anthems belonging to the new German wave such as "Bis die Sonne aufwacht" (Until the Sun Wakes Up) or "Skandal im Patriarchat" (Scandal in Patriarchy), with Paulinko giving a voice to all underestimated, ignored, neglected or mistreated women, giving them new courage and urging them to be unconditionally loud: loud for their own rights and those of others, for a tolerant society where love not just lust, sincerity instead of fakery and self-realisation rather than self-denial are the maxims. Paulinko also put this in a nutshell with their new single "Als sie sie küsst" - and they’ll do so on stage with us in September.
