There must be something in the water in Vienna because the Austrian cultural metropolis has been developing into a biotope of unique, high-calibre bands for a few years now. And oh alien have been thriving in this environment since 2019. However, their actual kick-off in 2021 was marked by their single, “Surface”, which roughly defined the trio’s stylistic framework: lascivious vocals over minimalist but very precisely produced electro beats and crisp drums that pierce the soul like acupuncture needles and free it from blockages. The formula was further refined on their EP, “This Might Be The Place” (2022), which added new influences ranging from dream pop to downtempo and trip-hop. Since then, oh alien have established a sound that is constantly evolving and entering into a dialogue with itself and with new sources of inspiration in order to grow. And this year’s debut album, “What We Grow”, is proof that the plan is working.
