Even when she first graced the stage in Berlin, Marnele performed like a professional with 20 years in the biz under her belt. Tough and energetic on stage, her tracks are always reflective and political. This is also reflected in the title of her debut EP "Macht gegen Seele", which appeared last year and addresses the topics of heartache ("Gift") or toxic masculinity ("Macker") as well as the neoliberal stripping down of our society ("Macht") and rampant sexism ("Cruella"). Underneath this, she mixes trap beats or pulsating electro productions that balance thematic diversity with musical variance. Marnele's love of poetry and dancing is as evident on stage as her penchant for non-verbal dialogue with the audience. It's hip-hop in a new guise that still picks up on virtues from the genre's peak times. That's the way it should be.
