Swim Deep
It didn’t take more than three albums for Swim Deep to make their neo-psychedelic blend of alternative dance, indie, and pop palatable to even the grumpiest of boomers. While their debut, “Where The Heaven Are We” (2013), was a stroll through the early varieties of 90s indie formations, the BPMs on their follow-up, “Mothers” (2015), were significantly higher. Acid house and techno, the electronic side of krautrock, and Balearic beats played a bigger role. And then came “Emerald Classics” (2019), which marked another turning point and brought indie pop references to the fore. Once again, a facet of the band’s ever-expanding oeuvre became visible that could not have been predicted. This year, Swim Deep are playing their next cards with the singles “First Song” and “How Many Love Songs Have Died In Vegas?”, which sound at once longing and dreamy. Is this what they have in store for us on a new album? We sure hope so.
