Waking dreams of streetlamps, abandoned buildings, and advertising pillars in the sunset shimmer in the songs of Steintor Herrenchor like memories that will never be forgotten. The trio from Hanover has built up a reputation over the last few years as worthy reformers of a musical movement that had once been declared dead. Post-punk and new wave – in keeping with their sound, songs such as “Postkarten” and “wohin” blend the echoing strings of the 80s with vintage synthesisers and reverbs from the sepia-coloured corners of the past. With aching hearts, Steintor Herrenchor surf through the dreariness of a battered existence, whose longings could eventually lead to addictions. But the trio’s music hints at an unspoken exit that the audience can hear and feel for themselves. After their debut EP, “Eine Woche Geburtstag” (2023), and a brilliant performance at REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL COLLIDE, they are back again with new music this year.
