Sofi Paez
Inspired by experiences of nature and the hidden beauty of everyday life, Sofi Paez makes music for the soul in unhappy times. She doesn’t need more than her voice and a piano to do so, but she still understands the sublime use of contemporary electronic sound design in her songs. With ghostly beauty, pieces such as the drifting “Por que” and the whirring piano ballad “Hammers” penetrate to the core of things, touching the listener’s own soul without any kitsch and setting processes of unimagined significance in motion. The fact that the composer from Costa Rica only released her debut album – “Silent Stories” (2024) – this year is hard to believe given the surreal virtuosity of her playing, her sensitivity, and her grace – and yet it’s true. This is modern classical music in its most beautiful form. Anyone who wants to experience this magic for themselves will soon have a date that’s not to be missed here in Hamburg.
