Скажи щось погане (Say Smthg Bad)
Very few bands in this day and age can claim to have emerged from the turmoil of war and to have successfully created their own sound despite the most adverse circumstances. But Skazhy shchos pohane have managed to do just that, creating a real stir in Kiev’s struggling music scene as early as in 2022 with their two EPs, “Легіт” and “Легіт 2”. Reduced to bass guitar, drums, and vocals, Artur and Margarita create a highly atmospheric mix of post-punk, garage rock revival, and dark, smoky grunge grooves that throbs from the loudspeakers with raw, stylistically autonomous, and completely unadulterated passion. Sometimes, it sounds like a spontaneously recorded gig in an obscure dive bar in the middle of nowhere, but other times, it sounds like the next sensation in the Eastern European rock cosmos that has been completely underestimated elsewhere for many years. This duo presented impressive proof just last year with their debut album, “Рефлексія” (2023), that passionate music doesn’t need an expensive studio or pompous PR in order to become firmly established in the minds of an entire generation beyond the short-lived fads of their time. A genuine insider tip for fascinating, completely original music.
