Consisting of Sandra Tervonen and Juuso Malin, the Pearly Drops have a shiny new perspective on contemporary interpretations of synth-pop and are not ashamed of any degree of nostalgia or idiosyncrasy. But the group is not only about new ideas and established set pieces; rather, they also create dreamy indie pop mixed with a frenzy of modern electronic sounds straight out of a colouring book that knows no conventions because it doesn’t want to know them. Carefree and unbiased, this duo implement traditions from the nineties but also set standards for future production trends in the fog of dream pop, ethereal wave, and the echoes of a post-punk revival. By the time they had released their second album, “A Little Disaster” (2023), it was clear to everyone – and not just in Finland – that the Pearly Drops were creating their own musical narrative of extremely high immersive power with remarkable stylistic confidence. The “Haunted Expansion Pack” EP (2023) proved all this once again at the end of last year. Now, the two will soon be on stage with us in Hamburg for the first time.
