Parra for Cuva
As diverse as Nicolas Demuth’s productions are, the level of quality with which he integrates his unique blend of different styles is just as special. On albums such as “Paspatou” (2018) and the much-celebrated “Juno” (2021), delicately chiselled downtempo nestles up against tropical house tonality, the style-bending charm of well-made indietronica, and chilled progressive breaks. If that’s all too much word salad for you, you can simply file Parra For Cuva away as the perfect soundtrack for a carefree day at the lake with your best friends. Memories of the fragile compositions of Ludovico Einaudi shine through here, as does the euphorically overflowing sound of the last Bonobo albums. The whole thing is garnished by the elaborate sampling of kalimbas, steel drums, carillons, and accordions, which lend an elusive aura to the tracks of this producer’s producer, who clearly knows every trick in the book. Exactly what he will be performing for us in September remains completely unpredictable – and that’s a damn good thing.
