Mothica
McKenzie Ashton Ellis achieved unprecedented success in 2014 with her first song, “Starchild”, which racked up more than 100,000 plays on Soundcloud within 24 hours. Since then, as Mothica, she has been creating an unmistakable mix of styles that lies somewhere between electropop, alternative R’n’B, future bass, and energetic rock music – and she conceives and produces it all by herself. Without a label or management, the young jack-of-all-trades is a prime example of an emancipated DIY artist whose creativity is an expression of her attitude towards life. This is also evident time and again in Mothica’s high-quality output. Songs such as “No One” and “VICES” regularly crack the million mark, whether on TikTok or the Billboard charts. With her second studio album, “Nocturnal” (2022), she celebrated the next stage of her development after being signed to the renowned label Rise Records, and yet she still refuses to make any compromises. On the contrary: More than ever before, Mothica creates a sound that is entirely her own. She doesn’t follow hypes; she creates them.
