Founded by two music-loving sisters, the Iva project has become a minor sensation in Bulgaria. Elena and Iva Todorova earned their spurs in talent shows and on some of the biggest stages in their home country at a time when the duo hardly had more than a few songs to their name. It’s probably due to their eclectic and captivating style that they managed to win over even the most discerning connoisseurs of contemporary indie music in such a short space of time. Singles such as the highly dramatic “Faithful” (2021) and the unconventional feel-good hit of late summer 2023 entitled “Morningstar” testify to a musical flair that playfully combines genre influences and transforms them into something wholly original. These influences range from trip-hop legends Massive Attack and Portishead to the pantheon of semi-minimal psychedelic rock, such as Jefferson Airplane and The Doors. The duo’s debut album, “Beautiful Madness” (2020), made it clear that these two musicians have indomitable creativity and are able to draw on a large pool of musical ideas and sources of inspiration for their own compositional process. Their second album, “On The Rocks”, was recently released, taking Iva’s dynamic to the next level and proving beyond any doubt that the two are certainly on their way to well-deserved fame.
