Holly Macve
While Holly Macve's grandfather was indeed a classical composer, it was her mother's record collection that inspired this Irish country music reformer when she was young. From blues classics to Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan to Johnny Cash, Macve has drawn inspiration in terms of sound and style from all of them. She gave her first concerts aged 18 at open mic nights in Brighton. That's where she was discovered by Bella Union label boss Simon Raymonde - and then it all happened very quickly. Her debut album "Golden Eagle" (2017) already showed her to be an exceptional talent in contemporary folk music and she was being mentioned in the same breath as giants such as Nick Cave and Johnny Cash. Lana Del Rey is such a fan of the British singer-songwriter that they recorded the beautiful ode to winter "Suburban House" (2023) together for her latest EP "Time Is Forever" (2024). For Macve, then, this means: so far, so unbelievably good.
