As the frontman and baritone voice of the British indie band The Slow Show, Rob Goodwin was responsible for some real insider tips in Manchester chamber pop throughout the 2010s. Concerts in what feels like every medium-sized city in the UK ensured that the singer–songwriter could also gain a lot of experience live and could incorporate it into his first solo works from 2023. Inspired by legends of American folk such as Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen, the material becomes an introspection on existential themes, his own biography, and life as an artist. Written in Neukölln, where it was also recorded and produced with pianist Lambert, songs such as the minimalistically orchestrated ‘Lifeline’ touch on a musical yet also deeply personal level. With this first sign of their upcoming solo album, Goodwin and Lambert show how intense and inspiring their work together is. And in September, they will show us how they can bring it to the stage.
