Ellie Dixon
The do-it-yourself approach to music production is usually limited to your own instrumentation, your own videos, self-determination in terms of marketing and the like. Ellie Dixon takes the concept a little further and pushes the boundaries of what can be realised in the bedroom studio. Using specially designed samples from the sounds of cups, pots, sauce boats and folding rulers, she invents eclectic alt-pop of the most idiosyncratic kind and combines it with contemporary r'n'b, indietronica and powerful bass. Inspired by early YouTube stars such as Dodie and Paint, Dixon prefers to do her own thing without the corset of a major deal. Anyone who hears songs like ‘Renaissance’ (2024) or ‘Knight Shift’ (2025) even once will immediately understand why this works, indeed why it has to work. Writing and performing, producing and designing - all from a single source that has established an almost magnetic style.
