Daniel Stoyanov once revealed in an interview that he would never survive a day as a car dealer. Nevertheless, it is no coincidence that as Bulgarian Cartrader, he combines an aesthetic of working-class symbols and car culture with indietronica and bedroom pop. For Stoyanov, there are biographical and cultural points of reference that are just as much a part of his passion for cars as they are a part of his music. At the same time, his falsetto and naïve approach to making music force us to reimagine stereotypical images of masculinity as he invents a style that he himself describes with a wink as “Cartrader Couture”. His debut album, “Motor Songs” (2022), also continues the trend of this likeable self-irony, which never degenerates or gets carried away. The goal? Overcoming ignorance and the clichés of machismo that hit you right from the start in the tough music industry. As a backing singer with Seeed as well as the producer of various artists and his own German-language pop albums, Stoyanov has been no stranger to the German music scene for many years – not even to us. This year, he is coming back to Hamburg for a gig with fresh song material.
