Ão
Ão have been making their way between cultures and musical traditions into the ears of sound-loving audiences across Europe and the USA for only two years. But they already rightly enjoy special status. The Belgian quartet mixes subtle electronica with inspired indie, mystical chamber pop with a sound infused with a saudade that's rarely heard in today's digitalised blur. At some point, we are all affected by this great longing for a past that we have lost and that now makes us quiver like a desert reflection in a higher and more spiritual splendour. The band's debut album "Ao Mar", released last year, explores this special feeling of nostalgia in twelve dreamlike songs that repeatedly and successfully defy stylistic categorisation. With Brenda Corijn's voice and phenomenal instrumentation, this music evokes the feeling of waking up in another age, another world, in which sadness and comfort are very close companions.
