When two giants of the British music scene are already publicly praising you before your debut album has even been released, you know you’re doing something right. Four years ago, Andrew Cushin put a fresh spin on contemporary Britpop with his single “Where’s My Family Gone”, which Noel Gallagher (Oasis) not only produced, but also played guitar on. The 21-year-old singer–songwriter manages to combine goosebump-inducing melodies full of profound lyrics using a voice that is always packed with emotion and power with themes that are at once serious and honest. Pete Doherty quickly realised this, too, and not only signed Cushin to his label – Strap Originals – for his 2023 debut album, “Waiting For The Rain”, but also took him on tour with The Libertines. The up-and-coming talent’s songs deal with the challenges of everyday life and address the problems of the present in the UK. And yet Cushin always sees the silver lining on the horizon. A musician we will be hearing a lot more from in the future.
